A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Wortham received his BA from Vanderbilt University in Nashville where he was a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honorary Fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, and was named the number one ROTC Honor Graduate.  He went on to earn his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. 

Following his graduate work, Dr. Wortham did both an internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in cardiology, at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, California. 

Active in the United States Army for a number of years, Dr. Wortham is the recipient of several honors including an Order of Military Medical Merit, a Meritorious Service Medal, an Army Achievement Medal, and a Legion of Merit.  He has served as the Chief of Cardiology and the Fellowship Program Director at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  Additionally he has served as Cardiology Consultant to the US Army Surgeon General. 

Dr. Wortham, a past president of the American Heart Association, and his wife, Wendy, a past president and volunteer for the Florence Crittendon Agency, have two sons: Keller, a physician and actor in Los Angeles, and Taylor, a third year medical student at the University of Tennessee Medical College in Memphis.  Dr. Wortham’s hobbies include golf and fly fishing.
